Medium-Duty Work Trucks in Motion

Medium-duty work trucks typically weigh in between 14,000 and 19,500 pounds and are the perfect size when a heavy-duty truck is too much, but a light-duty truck just isn’t quite enough.  There are a ton of uses for a medium-duty truck in a number of industries.

What are Medium-Duty Work Trucks Used For?

Medium-duty work trucks are often used to haul goods.  From materials that need to be transported to and from construction sites to moving companies and furniture delivery, the mid-range trucks are ideal for getting a myriad of jobs done.

Classes of Medium-Duty Work Trucks

The United States has eight main classifications of trucks in the medium-duty range.  Class 4 is comprised of trucks with a GVWR between 14,001 and 16,000.  Class 5 is made up of those weighing between 16,001 and 19,500. Class 6 encompasses trucks weighing 19,501– all the way up to 26,000 pounds.

Medium-Duty Truck Regulations

In keeping with The United States Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, trucks are also rated on emissions.  The new standards that will be introduced and enforced in 2021 will require even lower CO2 emissions and economical fuel features.

Choosing a Mid-Range Work Truck

When deciding on the exact medium-duty truck that fits your needs, you’ll want to analyze what your requirements actually are.  What will you be doing with your truck?  How much of a load will it need to accommodate?

One factor many fail to consider is what area will need to be accessed in the truck.  If you will need to squeeze it in to a compact spot to load and off-load it, you might think of going with the smallest of the medium-duty line.

If a smaller truck can do the job, by all means, get it.  If the job your truck will entail is possibly too much for a middle range truck, you’ll likely wear it out way too soon.  Go with the larger one.  But, if you find your requirements can be served by a medium-duty truck, you can then make the decision between a Class 4, Class 5, or Class 6.

Do you need customizations?  Perhaps you need a box conversion on your truck or a flatbed is required to haul your materials.  We have flatbeds, box trucks, and standard trucks available in the medium-duty line.  We can hook you up with a trailer, hydraulic lifts, removable shipping containers, or ramps.

How many team members will be riding in the truck at any given time?  We have both single and double cabs?  Want all the interior bells and whistles?  We can hook you up with the best of the best of them including factory upgrades and after factory accessory add-ons.  No matter what it is you need or want, we’ve got you covered.

Quality

Medium-duty trucks made by names, such as Hino and Isuzu, are workhorses.  You can find used medium-duty trucks that have lots of life left in them because they are made to last.  New medium-duty work trucks are continually improved in the areas of fuel economy, safety, and overall performance.  They also hold an excellent resale value.

New or Used – Which is Best?

Trying to decide between a new or used medium-duty work truck?  It can be tough to choose.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Used trucks can come with problems because they’ve been driven and some have been worked hard.  Then again, the price of a new one isn’t always within your budget.  New trucks come with warranties to cover maintenance costs.  Warranties can accompany used work trucks too though.

New trucks that hold their resale value can be useful when it’s time to upgrade into a newer model.  They can be traded in or sold to help cover the cost of the next new truck.  You can even sell your used truck to get one that is less used.

No matter how you stack it, when you do business with a company you trust, there are many ways you can come out ahead whether you decide to go with a new work truck, or a used one.
